FEBRUARY 2022 4 MONTHLY STATISTICAL BULLETIN Industrial Production registers a year-on-year rate of change of 0.4% In December 2021, year-on-year: • The Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 0.4% (0.2% in the previous month); • Excluding Energy, the rate of change concerning the IPI was 2.2% (3.2% in November); • The rate of change in Manufacturing industry stood at 1.0% (0.8% in the previous month); • Themajor industrial groupings that make up the IPI showed disparate evolutions. FEBRUARY 2022 5 Industrial Production Index (Year-on-year rate of change) Intermediate goods Industrial Production Index (Year-on-year rate of change) Energy In December 2021, when compared to the previous month: • The IPI registered a rate of change of 1.8% (1.2% in November); • Of the major industrial groupings, only Consumer goods did not show a positive rate of change, although its performance improved on the previous month. IPI - Total and Main Industrial Groupings (month-on-month rate of change) In the 4th quarter of 2021, year-on-year: • The aggregate index registered a rate of change of -2.0% (-4.8% in the previous quarter); • The index concerning Manufacturing industry decreased by 0.6% (-3.7% in the 3rd quarter). For 2021 as a whole, the following year-on-year rates of change were registered: • Industrial Production Index: up 2.9%, after a fall of 7.0% the previous year; • Index concerning Manufacturing industry: increase of 4.7%, after the 8.3% reduction in 2020. 2022 Edition 6 MONTHLY STATISTICAL BULLETIN Industry Turnover Index (year-on-year rate of change) Consumer goods Industry Turnover Index (year-on-year rate of change) Intermediate goods Industrial turnover increased by 18.3% in nominal terms The Industrial Turnover Index (ITI) registered, in December 2021, a nominal year-on-year growth of 18.3% (16.9% in the previous month). Excluding Energy, the index grew by 20.0% (18.1% in November). By nature of the market, industrial sales recorded the following rates of change when compared to the same month of 2020: • Domestic market: 11.2% (same figure as in November); • Non-domestic market: 30.2% (24.6% in November). These results continue to be significantly influenced by the growth in industrial prices, whose index increased by 19.9% in December (18.7% in the previous month). In the 4th quarter of 2021, industrial sales registered a year-on-year growth of 15.5% (12.4% in the previous quarter). In 2021 as a whole: • The average rate of change of the ITI was 15.0% (-10.7% in 2020). FEBRUARY 2022 9 MONTHLY STATISTICAL BULLETIN Retail trade sales slowed down in January In January 2022, the following year-on-year rates of change were recorded in the Retail Trade sector: • Turnover Index1: 10.4% (7.4% in December); This acceleration partly reflects a base effect, given that January 2021, particularly in food trade, was marked by the effect of the general confinement due to the worsening pandemic situation, with the index then contracting by 9.9%; • Employment index: 4.0% (3.9% in December); • Wages and salaries index: 6.8% (6.3% in December); • Index of hours worked2: 7.1% (3.7% in December). 2022 Edition 10 MONTHLY STATISTICAL BULLETIN Housing prices accelerated significantly in Lisboa In the 3rd quarter of 2021, the median price of dwellings in Portugal was €1,311/m2, which represents an increase of 12.2% in year- -on-year terms and an acceleration in housing prices (in the previous quarter, the year-on-year rate of change was 6.8%). NUTS III regions All 25 NUTS III regions recorded year-on-year increases in house prices, with the most notable being: • Alentejo Central: +17.1%; • Cávado: +13.1%; • Oeste: +12.6%. These three regions and Algarve registered higher growth rates than the country. The four NUTS III sub-regions with the highest prices were: • Algarve (€2,057/m2); • Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (€1,823/m2); • Região Autónoma da Madeira (€1,397/m2); • Área Metropolitana do Porto (€1,364/m2). The Alto Alentejo region had both the lowest year-on-year rate of change and the lowest median sales price of dwellings: +0.4% and €452/m2, respectively. Municipalities Of the municipalities with more than 100 thousand inhabitants, all of the fifteen that make up the metropolitan areas of Lisboa and Porto, except Gondomar and Santa Maria da Feira, recorded median house prices above the national level (€1,311/m2), with the emphasis on: • Lisboa: €3,592/m2; • Cascais: €3,100/m2; • Oeiras: €2,618/m2; • Porto: €2,319/m2; • Odivelas: €2,190/m2. Of the same fifteen municipalities, five showed year-on-year rates of change higher than the national rate (12.2%), more so: • Vila Franca de Xira: +18.6%; • Matosinhos and Cascais: +14.1% in both; • Seixal: +13.1%; • Lisboa: +12.8%. Conversely, the following registered year-on-year rates of change lower than the national rate: • Oeiras: +10.3%; • Odivelas: +8.9%; • Porto: +3.9%. Amongst the municipalities with over 100 thousand inhabitants outside metropolitan areas, only Funchal (€1,850/m2) and Coimbra (€1,445/m2) had median prices higher than the national average, but both had year-on-year increases lower than the country (+5.5% and +8.4%, respectively). FEBRUARY 2022 13 MONTHLY STATISTICAL BULLETIN Industrial production prices increased by 17.9% In January 2021, the Industrial Production Prices Index (IPPI) registered a year-on-year increase of 17.9% (20.0% in the previous month): • 46.5% concerning Energy (64.5% in December); • 18.9% regarding Intermediate goods (18.2% in December). How this indicator changed continued to be strongly influenced by the increase in the prices of electricity production and oil and its derivatives, including chemical products. The month-on-month rate of change concerning the IPPI was 0.3% (2.1% in January 2021). In February, compared to the previous month, the CPI rate of change should have been 0.4% (0.3% in January 2022 and -0.5% in February 2021). It is estimated that in February 2022, the average rate of change concerning the CPI in the last twelve months was 1.8% (1.5% in the previous month). In February 2022, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HIPC) - the most appropriate inflation indicator for comparisons between the different countries in the European Union, and in particular in the Euro Area - should have registered in Portugal a year-on-year rate of change of 4.4% (3.4% in the previous month).

In terms of the month-on-month rates of change, the estimated rates for December 2021 were: • CCINH: -1.4% (1.3% in November); • Price of materials: -0.7% (0.8% in November); • Labour costs: -2.3% (2.2% in November). For the year 2021 as a whole, the following rates of change were registered: • CCINH: 5.7% (2.1% in 2020); • Price of materials: 6.2% (1.2% in 2020); • Labour costs: 5.1% (3.3% in 2020). These developments in the LCI were essentially explained by the following reasons: • Increase of 2.0% in the average cost per employee (+3.1% in the previous quarter). There were generalised increases in overnight stays of residents, especially in RA Madeira (+111.3%) and RA Açores (+99.1%), and also in overnight stays of non-residents (with the highest increase in RA Açores: +164.3%). Excluding 2020, one has to go back to 2010 to find a lower number of overnight stays: 37.4 million. In 2021, the period August to October registered the highest number of overnight stays (49.6%of the total overnight stays), contrary to the usual seasonal pattern: higher incidence in the summer months (July to September). In 2021, when compared with 2019: • The number of guests decreased by 46.4%; • The number of overnight stays declined by 46.6% (-10.9% concerning residents and -62.0% regarding non-residents); • There were decreases in overnight stays in all regions, mainly due to the reductions in the number of overnight stays of non-residents, although there were increases in overnight stays of residents in RA Madeira (+19.2%) and Algarve (+5.1%).

FEBRUARY 2022 33 Total revenue of tourist accommodation establishments More information is available at: Tourism activity – December 2021 14 February 2022 Revenue In December 2021: • The total revenue registered in the tourist accommodation establishments reached €153.2 million, of which €180.0 million related to revenue of accommodation; • Compared to November 2019, total revenue decreased by 25.4% and revenue of accommodation decreased by 23.3%; • Área Metropolitana de Lisboa accounted for 31.9% of the total revenue and 34.2% of revenue of accommodation, followed by Norte (19.1% and 19.3%, respectively) and RA Madeira (17.5% and 16.4%, in the same order). In 2021, as a whole: • Compared to 2020, the total revenue grew by 61.2% and revenue of accommodation increased by 62.8%; • Compared to 2019, there were decreases of 45.7% in total revenue and 45.8% in revenue of accommodation.
