FEBRUARY 2022 27 MONTHLY STATISTICAL BULLETIN Around 35% of the population is limited in carrying out activities, the highest figure since 2016 In 2021: • 50.2% of the Portuguese population self-assessed the state of health as good or very good, 1.1 p.p. less than in the previous year (51.3%), in contrast with the increasing trend on this indicator that had been seen since 2014; • People who had completed secondary or post-secondary education (66.2%) and higher education (74.1%) had the highest proportions of positive evaluation of their health status in that year; • For people aged 16 and over: » The prevalence of chronic illness or long-term health problems affected 43.9% of them, i.e., 0.7 p.p. more than in 2020 and 2.7 p.p. more vis-à-vis 2019; » 34.9% reported having some limitation in performing activities due to health problems and, of these, 9.6% reported a severe degree of limitation. These two indicators registered an increase in relation to previous years, reaching in both cases the highest proportions since 2016; » 5.7% could not meet medical care needs (1.8 p.p. more than in 2020) and 13.1% dental care needs (+1.4 p.p. vis-à-vis 2020).
