Summary
This publication presents the major statistical data produced in the environmental area. For the first time, Statistics Portugal includes in this annual publication data on the production of hospital waste, resulting from the compilation of administrative data, collected and treated by the Direcção-Geral de Saúde (Directorate General of Health).
The publication is organised into two chapters; the first chapter shows a text analysing the main results regarding expenditure on environmental protection, water supply and waste water, as well as solid urban waste and hospital waste. This text is supplemented with tables, charts and maps. The second chapter shows tables containing the main economic data for 2005, regarding expenditure on environmental protection in three institutional sectors (general government, enterprises and non-profit institutions) and physical data in the areas of water supply, waste water, urban waste and hospital waste.
