Men and women in Portugal - 2006

Summary
The equality between men and women is a fundamental right. Gender mainstreaming is the strategy to achieve gender equality which requires the identification of the differences between men and women in all areas of society. The collecting,
analysis and dissemination of sexdisaggregated data on a regular basis are essential activities of statistical institutes
and researches centres to stress the gender gaps. This publication integrates a set of indicators focused on eight themes:
Population, Family, Activity, Employment and Unemployment, Conciliation, Employment and Family responsibilities, Decision Making, Health, and Crime and Violence. These are the areas of the Gender Profile, a database available to the users in our website. It provides also a list of the indicators available in Gender Database, at moment, for each of eight themes.
