In 2008 the turnover of the domestic trade sector reached 138 883 million Euros, of which 50.5% was originated in Wholesale trade, 34.2% in Retail trade, and 15.3% in Wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.

69.2% of Wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles turnover was due to motor vehicle sales.

Considering both Wholesale and Retail trade sectors, food products, beverage and tobacco had an important role in total turnover, accounting for 24.6% in wholesale trade and 30.1% in retail trade.

Non-specialised establishments weighted 75% in total food products sales. On the other side, specialised stores were the most important for the household articles accounting for 75% of total sales.
