Transport Activity shows signs of recovery in the 1ST Quarter of 2010 - 1st Quarter 2010

Summary
In the first quarter of 2010, the number of passengers in national airports presented a year-on-year increase of 6.9% reaching 5.3 million passengers. The light railway transport (+3.1%) and the inland waterway transport (+0.3%) maintained a growing trend in passenger movement which started in the last quarter of 2009. On the other hand, the heavy rail mode maintained a downward dynamic in the passenger movement (year-on-year decrease of 1.5%) although in a smoother pace compared with the previous quarter (-2.9% between October and December of 2009). The transport of goods revealed year-on-year increases in the different modes: 9.9% in maritime mode, 14.8% in air mode and 6.7% in heavy rail mode. In the 4th quarter of 2009, 53 850 thousands tonnes were transported in road freight transport (-7.2% compared with 2008).
