Pear production reaches 168,000 tons; rainfalls affect grape harvest - September 2006
19 October 2006

Summary
On 30 September early estimates point to increases in the production of maize, rice and sunflower and falls in tomato for industry. Fruit-tree production reveals an increase in pear production, therefore anticipating a good marketing year, as well as in table grape. Apple production, in turn, is forecast to be lower than in the last season. As regards shell nuts, good production is expected for chestnuts, whereas almond production is likely to fall. Wine production will probably decline by 3%, to reach 6,786,000 hectolitres. It should be mentioned that rainfalls have affected grape harvest, occasionally deteriorating the health condition of grapes and contributing to a decline in the proof spirit of wine.
