The September 2017 unemployment rate was 8.5%, down by 0.3 percentage points (p.p.) from the previous month’s level and by 0.6 p.p. from three months before. That value corresponds to a downwards revision of 0.1 p.p. from the provisional estimate released one month ago. Only going back to April 2008 it is possible to find a rate as lower as that.
Statistics Portugal estimates that the September unemployed population was 439.8 thousand people, having decreased by 2.6% from the previous month’s level (11.9 thousand fewer people). The employed population estimate was
4,715.1 thousand people, having increased by 0.1% (6.2 thousand more people) from the previous month’s level.
The provisional unemployment rate estimate for October 2017 was 8.5%. For this month, the provisional estimate for the unemployed population was 436.9 thousand people and that for the employed population was 4,711.2 thousand people.
