Summary

The May 2017 unemployment rate stood at 9.2%, down by 0.3 percentage points (p.p.) from the previous month’s level and by 0.7 p.p. from three months before. That value corresponds to a downward revision of 0.2 p.p. from the provisional estimate released one month ago and is the lowest observed estimate since November 2008 (8.9%).
The May unemployed population was estimated at 473.7 thousand people, having decreased by 3.3% from the previous month’s level (16.2 thousand fewer people), while the employed population was estimated at 4,670.3 thousand people, having increased by 0.1% (5.9 thousand more people) from the previous month’s level.
The provisional unemployment rate estimate for June 2017 was 9.0%. For this month, the provisional estimate for the unemployed population was 462.6 thousand people and for the employed population it was 4,672.3 thousand people.
