Summary
According to information compiled under the new satellite account on non-profit institutions, in 2006 there were 45,543 non-profit institutions (NPI) and about 50% had activities in the area of culture and recreation. However, social services accounted for 45.2% of Gross Value Added (GVA) of NPIs and more than 50% of employment (paid jobs) in the sector.  In 2006, NPIs represented 2.2% of national GVA, 3.4% of employment, 2.5% of final consumption expenditure and 2.4% of gross capital formation.
