In September 2008, hotel establishments registered 4.2 million of overnight stays, accounting for a year-on-year downturn of 1.9%, compared with September 2007, exclusively due to non-residents overnight stays decrease (-3.2%). The main destinations were Algarve (about 40% of total overnight stays), Lisbon (20.2%) and Madeira (13.9%).
Total income from hotel activity reached 216.4 million euro and income from hotel occupancy 149.2 million euro, corresponding to year-on-year downturns of 1.2% and 0.1%, respectively.
