Summary
The Portuguese Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.2% in January 2009 when compared with January 2008. On a monthly basis, the CPI changed by -0.7% (-0.5% in December 2008 and -0.1% in January 2008). The CPI 12-month average rate of change decreased to 2.4% in January.
In January, the Portuguese Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) increased 0.1% when compared with the same month of the previous year, 1.0 percentage points below the rate estimated by Eurostat for the Euro area.
