Summary
In this publication Statistics Portugal disseminates the main statistical findings on the activity of the Transport Sector in 2008:
- for railway transport, data presented are the result of surveys conducted by Statistics Portugal, namely in the areas
of railway infrastructure, railway traffic and underground statistics;
 - concerning road transport, statistics resulted from administrative data produced by “Estradas de Portugal, S. A.”, regarding road networks; “Autoridade Nacional de Segurança Rodoviária - ANSR”, for road accidents; “Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes Terrestres - IMTT”, for figures on the registration of vehicles and “Direcção-Geral de Energia e Geologia - DGEG”, for fuel consumption on road transport; also, from the “Survey on the Carriage of Goods by Road”, carried out by Statistics Portugal, as well as data on sales of vehicles, produced by “ACAP - Associação Automóvel de Portugal”;
 - for sea and water inland transport, statistical findings are obtained from surveys to entities responsible for river transport, as well as administrations of commercial ports;
 - with reference to air transport, data now being presented are the result of statistics for air traffic control, airport and air transport operators activities provided by “Instituto Nacional de Aviação Civil” INAC and “ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal”;
 - statistics concerning transport by pipeline are collected from REN Gasodutos S.A., and Companhia Logística de Combustíveis, S.A.
This publication also disseminates statistical data regarding international trade, produced by Statistics Portugal, covering all modes of transport associated to the international trade of goods.
