Summary
The 2000 issue of the Anuário Estatístico da Região Centro (Statistical Yearbook of the Centro Region) is composed of three parts: Territory and Population, Economic activity and Social indicators, which correspond to the different aspects according to which this region can be characterised. The purpose of this publication, now in its ninth year of issue, focuses on the release of statistical information at infra-regional and especially municipality level. The publication by Statistics Portugal of Statistical Yearbooks for the various Portuguese regions, whose contents are, in essence, harmonised with those presented herein, enables an inter-regional or even inter-municipality comparison for a very wide range of variables.
