The Portuguese Food Balance Sheet (BAP) is an analytical instrument of statistical nature that measures food consumption from the point of view of food supply, setting the food availability and its evolution in Portugal in terms of products, nutrients and calories. It provides a set of global benchmarks, which can be used for a number of purposes, in particular for the assessment at national level of availability, demand and consumption trends as guiding instrument political guidelines regarding agriculture, fisheries and food industry.
In this publication, INE updates and disseminates BAP for the period 2012-2016, extending the scope of analysis to micronutrients and using, where appropriate, comparative analysis with the previous period (2008-2011).
