In general terms, the statistical information produced by Statistics Portugal is based on primary statistical operations (surveys) or secondary statistical operations. In the first case, results are obtained through the computation of survey results subject to prior verification, check, quality control, result extrapolation (where applicable), further control and, ultimately, release. Secondary statistics result in the production of statistical information based on already existing background information.
