Summary

The Portuguese Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up 0.7% in April 2010 when compared with April 2009. Excluding energy and unprocessed food, the annual rate lowered to -0.5%, from -0.4% in March. On a monthly basis, the CPI decreased to 0.4% (1.1% in March 2010 and 0.2% in April 2009). The CPI 12-month average rate of change stood at -0.7% in April ( -0.8% in March).
In April, the Portuguese Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) annual inflation rate was 0.7% (0.6% in March), 0.8 percentage points (p.p.) below the rate estimated by Eurostat for the Euro area.
