Passenger transport increased in all modes of transport - 4th Quarter 2024

Summary

In the 4th quarter of 2024, national airports handled nearly 16 million passengers, corresponding to an increase of 4.1% (+3.1% in the 3rd Q2024).

In the same quarter, 57.4 million passengers travelled by train (+6.9%; +2.8% in the 3rd Q2024) and 76.8 million by metro (+10.3%; +7.2% in the 3rd Q2024). 

Passenger transport by inland waterways increased by 7.9% compared with the 4th Q2023 (+5.4% in the 3rd Q2024), reaching 5.8 million passengers.

Regarding the transport of goods, there were decreases by road (-12.8%; -12.9% in the previous quarter) and increases by rail (+4.3%; +2.7% in the 3rd Q2024), by air (+12.6%; +18.2% in the 3rd Q2024) and by sea (+10.5%; +2.1% in the 3rd Q2024).

Preliminary results for 2024 revealed growth in passenger transport by air (+4.3%; +18.9% in 2023), by train (+9.3%; +16.7% in 2023), by metro (+8.9%; +20.7% in 2023) and by inland waterways (+6.7%; +21.5% in 2023).

Regarding the transport of goods, the results indicate growth in transport by air (+14.2%; +0.1% in 2023) and by sea (+4.9%; -3.4% in 2023). By land, rail and road transport decreased: -1.2% (+0.5% in 2023) and -12.3% (-8.8% in 2023), respectively.

In 2024, pipeline transport increased by 1.1% compared with the previous year (+8.0% in 2023). In the transport of gas by pipeline, there were decreases in input (-10.3%; -15.8% in 2023) and output (-10.4%; -15.6% in 2023).
