The tourist accommodation sector registered 3.0 million guests and 7.6 million overnight stays in October 2024, corresponding to variations of +3.8% and +2.5%, respectively (+2.9% and +2.5% in September 2024, in the same order). Residents’ overnight stays increased by 1.2% (-0.6% in September), corresponding to 1.9 million, while those by non-residents grew by 3.0% (+3.7% in September), totaling 5.7 million.
In external markets, the British kept leading (19.9% share), having grown by 2.3% in October, followed by Germany (12.6% share), which increased by 3.7%. Among the top 10 main inbound markets in October, Canada was the one increasing the most (+15.0%), while the Spanish market recorded the largest drop (-12.4%).
Alentejo being the exception (-4.4%), all the regions recorded an increase in overnight stays, being more significant in the Azores (+10.8%) and in the Centre (+7.0%).
Occupancy in tourist accommodation establishments reached 51.0% and 63.2% in October, respectively, in net bed and room occupancy rates (-0.2 p.p. and +0.7 p.p., in the same order).
Up to October this year, overnight stays have increased by 3.7%, +1.2% for residents and +4.8% for non-residents.
