In 2022, there were 39 900 companies belonging to a group in Portugal, which represented 8.0% of the total number of companies, concentrated 40.4% of the persons employed, 63.9% of the turnover, 57.7% of the gross value added (GVA) and 62.6% of the gross operating surplus (GOS) (8.2%, 41.0%, 62.9%, 59.1% and 65.0% in the previous year, respectively). Compared to 2021, the number of companies belonging to a group grew by 1.6%, persons employed, turnover, GVA and GOS increased by 3.7%, 24.6%, 17.0% and 21.9%, respectively.
In 2022, 27.9% of the companies in the Financial services sector belonged to a group, followed by the Information and communication and Manufacturing and energy sectors (11.5% each sector), concentrating 72.1%, 75.7% and 65.0% of the GVA generated by the respective sectors.
The average annual remuneration and the apparent labour productivity of the companies belonging to a group were higher than those registered by the remaining companies: EUR 22.3 thousand versus EUR 14.6 thousand and EUR 54.0 thousand versus EUR 27.5 thousand, respectively.
