Average daily rate reached historical high in AM Lisboa - May 2023

In May 2023, the tourist accommodation sector accounted for 2.8 million guests (+12.1%) and 7.1 million overnight stays (+10.0%) corresponding to EUR 571.7 million in total revenue (+25.2%) and EUR 436.8 million in revenue from accommodation (+29.1%). Compared with May 2019, there were increases of 40.1% in total revenue and 44.4% in revenue from accommodation.

The revenue per available room (RevPAR) stood at EUR 69.8 and the average daily rate (ADR) amounted to EUR 112.7 (+23.7% and +17.6%, respectively). When compared to May 2019, there were increases of 33.3% and 28.4%, respectively.

In May, among the municipalities with greater representation in terms of the total number of overnight stays, Albufeira continued to stand out with a decrease in overnight stays compared to 2019 (-5.6% in total; -15.8% in residents and -4.0% in non-residents). In Porto and Funchal, there were still increases compared to May 2019 (+28.1% and +20.2%, respectively).

In the first five months of 2023, the total overnight stays grew by 23.9% (+12.7% in residents and +29.3% in non-residents), which corresponded to increases of 38.8% in total revenue and 41.6% in revenue from accommodation (+39.8% and +43.8%, respectively, compared to the same period of 2019).

When considering all means of accommodation (tourist accommodation establishments, camping and holiday camps, and youth hostels), in the first five months of 2023, there were 11.4 million guests and 28.6 million overnight stays registered, corresponding to increases of 25.7% and 23.9%, respectively. When compared with the same period in 2019, overnight stays increased by 13.4% (+16.3% concerning residents and +12.1% regarding non-residents).
