Business confidence improves in construction and public works and trade and deteriorates in services and manufacturing industry; Consumer Confidence Indicator recovers again
- April 2006
03 May 2006
In April, the Business Climate Indicator recovered, thus largely offsetting the deterioration seen last month.
The confidence levels in manufacturing industry, however, deteriorated again, falling back to values last observed in September 2005. In services, the confidence indicator also deteriorated further, albeit not as markedly as last month, to stand at a eight months trough . The recovery in trade was due to the behaviour of wholesale trade, which more than offset the unfavourable shift in retail trade, but did not annul the downward movement seen last month. In construction and public works, data for April continued the slightly upward movement seen in the two previous months. The Consumer Confidence Indicator recovered again with some strength.
