Summary

In October 2022, the number of deaths was 9,495, a figure higher than that registered in September 2022 (762 more deaths; +8.7%) and higher than the one observed in October 2021 (97 more deaths; +1.0%). From January to October 2022, there were 102,272 deaths, 1,036 fewer than in the same period of 2021 (-1.0%).

In October 2022, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 increased to 217 (39 more deaths than in September 2022), accounting for 2.3% of all deaths. Compared with October 2021, there was an increase of 33 deaths due to COVID-19.

In September 2022, 7,620 children were born alive, corresponding to an increase of 5.2% compared to September 2021 (7,246). The total number of live births registered in the first nine months of 2022 (61,678) was higher than the value observed in the same period of 2021 (59,464), representing a further 2,214 (+3.7 %) live births.

In September 2022, the natural balance was -1,103, a lower figure compared to the same month of 2021, when it reached the value of -1,305. In the first nine months of 2022, the accumulated value of the natural balance was -30,898, improving the one registered in the same period of 2021 (-34,357).

In September 2022, 5,128 marriages were celebrated, corresponding to an increase of 14.4% compared to the number of marriages held in September 2021 (645 more marriages). In the first nine months of 2022, 28,989 marriages were celebrated, 6,979 more (+31.7%) than in the same period of 2021.
