Passenger transport continues recovery trend - 1st Quarter 2022

Summary

In the 1st quarter of 2022, national airports handled 8.3 million passengers, corresponding to an increase of 465.7% compared to the same period of 2021 (+212.9% in Q4 2021). Compared to the same period of 2019, there was a decrease of 25.4%.

In the same quarter of 2022, 37,6 million passengers were transported by train and 46.2 million by metro (+94.4% and +135.7%, respectively, in comparison to the same period of 2021). Compared to the same period of 2019, there variations were +1.1% and -25.8%, respectively.

In the 1st quarter of 2022, the transport of passengers by inland waterways increased by 105.2% compared to the Q1 2021 (+37.2% in the Q4 2021), reaching 3.6 million passengers, and decreased by 25.7% compared to Q1 2019.

Regarding the transport of goods, air transport increased by 37.2% compared to the Q1 2021 (+11.9% vis-à-vis Q1 2019). Rail transport registered an increase of 5.3% compared to the same period of 2021 (+7.5% in previous quarter) and a decrease of 4.7% compared to Q1 2019. By sea there was an increase of 0.8% compared to Q1 2021 (-1.2% in Q4 2021) and a decrease in comparison to Q1 2019 (-5.5%). Road transport grew 8.5% and carried 39.9 million tonnes, the same value registered in Q1 2019 (-0.03%).
