Passengers transport continues to increase - 1st Quarter 2019

Summary

In the 1st quarter 2019, there was a movement of 11.2 million passengers at national airports, representing a growth of 6.2%  (same as in the 4thQ 18). In the rail mode, passengers increased in both the heavy transport network (+4.5%, +5.0% in the 4thQ) and the light rail systems (+6.1%, +5.1% in the 4thQ). Inland waterways passenger transport stood out with a 12.6% increase (+7.2% in the 4thQ).
National maritime ports registered increases considering the number (+2.4%) and the gross tonnage (+12.0%) of incoming vessels, recovering from reductions in the 4thQ (-6.5% and -0.6%, respectively). The goods handled at ports increased by 2.9% in tonnage (-2.4% in the previous quarter) and more significantly in the unloading movement (+3.9%).
Rail freight transport decrease by 3.0% in tonnes (-8.4% in the 4thQ), hand in hand with a 12.2% increase in tonnes-km (+1.4% in the 4thQ). Road freight transport increased slightly by 0.8% in tonnes (+2.3% in the previous quarter), with national transport (+3.2%) accounting for 84.2% of the total.
