In 2018, total sales of products and services in the industry reached EUR 91.7 billion, representing a nominal increase of 7.1% over the previous year (+9.3% in 2017).
The activities that recorded the most significant positive contributions to the growth registered in the total industry were Manufacture of motor vehicles, Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products and Manufacture of food products with 3.0 p.p., 0.6 p.p. and 0.4 p.p., respectively. The activities that contributed negatively were Manufacture of rubber and plastics, Leather and leather products industry and Beverage industry, all with -0.1 p.p.
Considering the annual rates of change for a set of economic indicators (sales of products and services supply, persons employed, GVA and apparent labour productivity), Division 29 - Manufacture of motor vehicles stood out, with rates of change above the average total for manufacturing industry, both in 2017 and 2018, reflecting greater dynamism in the overall economic indicators under analysis.
