Overnight stays from non residents continued to decrease - July 2018

Summary

Hotels and similar establishments registered 2.2 million guests and 6.7 million overnight stays in July 2018, corresponding to change rates of -2.1% and -2.8% (-0.2% and -3,2% in June, respectively). Overnight stays from residents increased 1.6% while those from non residents decreased by 4.5% (+3.3% and -5.5% in June, respectively).
The average stay (3.09 nights) had a 0.6% reduction (+2.6% for residents and -1.8% for non-residents).
The net occupancy-bed rate (65.4%) declined 2.3 p.p.
Total revenue decelerated 2.0 p.p. to a 6.0% growth, reaching EUR 455.9 million. Revenue from accommodation increased by 6.8% (+8.0% in June), reaching EUR 351.2 million.
In 2017, the number of arrivals in Portugal of non-resident tourists was estimated as 21.2 million (provisional results), more 16.6% over the previous year.
