House prices up by 7.9% on a year before - 1st Quarter 2017

Summary

In the first quarter of 2017, the House Price Index (HPI) increased 7.9 % when compared to the same quarter of the previous year, 0.3 percentage points (p.p.) more than in the last quarter of 2016. In this period, prices increased 9.2% for existing dwellings, the same as in the last quarter of 2016, and 4.2% for new dwellings, the highest rate since the start of 2016.
When compared with the last quarter of 2016, the HPI increased 2.1%, 0.9 p.p. higher than in the previous period.
A total of 35,178 dwellings were transacted in the first three months of 2017, 19.4% more than in the same period of the last year. The sales value surpassed the 4.3 billion Euros, of which 3.4 billion Euros were spent on the acquisition of existing dwellings.
