Summary

Life expectancy at birth for both males and females was estimated at 80.62 years. In 2014-2016, men and women could expect on average to live up to 77.61 years and 83.33 years of age, respectively, which represents an increase of 3 months for men and 1.2 months for women compared to the estimated values for 2013-2015.
Within a decade, there was a gain of 2.44 years of life for the total population, 2.80 years for men and 2.00 years for women.
Although life expectancy at birth continues to be higher for women, the gap between male and female life expectancy at birth has been gradually narrowing. In 2014-2016, at birth a woman could expect to live 5.72 years longer than a man.
Life expectancy at age 65 attained 19.31 years for the total population. A man aged 65 years could expect to live in average another 17.44 years, and a woman aged 65 another 20.73 years, which represents a gain of 1.42 years and 1.31 years, respectively, in the last ten years.
