The October 2017 unemployment rate was 8.4%, down by 0.1 percentage points (p.p.) from the previous month’s level and by 0.5 p.p. from three months before. That value corresponds to a downwards revision of 0.1 p.p. from the provisional estimate released one month ago. Only going back to February 2005 it is possible to find a rate as lower as that.
Statistics Portugal estimates that the October unemployed population was 435.0 thousand people, having decreased by 1.1% from the previous month’s level (4.6 thousand fewer people). The employed population estimate was
4,730.7 thousand people, having increased by 0.3% (12.1 thousand more people) from the previous month’s level.
The provisional unemployment rate estimate for November 2017 was 8.2%. For this month, the provisional estimate for the unemployed population was 424.2 thousand people and that for the employed population was 4,745.1 thousand people.
