IN 2015, Algarve was the region with largest growth, led by the tourism sector - 2015

Summary

According to the 2015 preliminary results, the Algarve (2.7%), Norte (1.9%), Centro (1.9%) regions and the Autonomous Region of Azores (1.7%) registered real GDP increases above the national average (1.6%). In the Alentejo region (1.4%) and the Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (1.2%), the increases were below the country average, and the Autonomous Region of Madeira showed a slight decrease (-0.1%).

The final 2014 results revealed that the largest difference in GDP per capita, at NUTS III level, is still between the Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (135.2) and the Tâmega e Sousa region (62.6), although this difference has reduced to 72.6 percentage points (p.p.), from 75.2 p.p. in 2013.

At NUTS II level, the GDP per capita asymmetries, when compared to the European average (EU28) measured in PPP, oscillated between 64.5% in the North region and 103.8% in the Área Metropolitana de Lisboa.
