Summary
The 5 050 fishing vessels in activity in Portugal in 2007 generated a volume of fresh and chilled fish landings on national ports of 161 thousand tonnes, plus 14% than in the previous year. More than 17 thousand fishers were involved in fishery activity, and a smaller number of accident victims and days of incapacity were registered, when compared with 2006. In 2007, the balance of international trade for fishery products showed a deficit of 877 million Euros, with a coverage rate of 37%.
