Upward trend in tourism trips made by residents - 2nd Quarter 2013

Summary

Residents in Portugal made around 3.9 million tourism trips from April to June 2013, 7.0% more than in the 2nd quarter 2012 (+6.2% in the 1st quarter 2013). This increase was widespread, with the emphasis on trips made for “Professional or business reasons” which grew by 18.8%, and those for "Leisure, recreation or holidays" which recorded a 10.1% increase. “Visits to relatives and friends” was still the main reason to travel (46.2% of total trips).
However trips abroad made by residents continued to decrease (11.6%) although at a slightly slower pace than in the previous quarter (13.7%).
