Transport activities
Movement of goods keeps expressive growth in ports and increases in road mode. Movement of passengers increases in airports but reduces in inland waterways - 4th Quarter 2013

Summary
In the 4th quarter of 2013 the movement of goods in ports increased by 20.2%1 (+24.6% in the 3rd quarter). Railway freight transport kept an upward trend with a resulting 8.0% growth in tonnage (+7.4% in the 3rd quarter).
In the last quarter of 2013, national airports recorded increases of 3.7% in the movement of aircrafts and 7.7% regarding passengers (+2.7% and +4.7% in the 3rd quarter of 2013), while the movement of cargo and mail declined by 1.8%.
In road freight transport there was a +19.9% rate change, strengthening the growth started in the 2nd quarter of 2013.
The transport of passengers declined in inland waterways (-1.1%) and in Lisbon underground (-8.5%), while it increased by 6.3% in Porto’s underground. Worth mentioning the 1.1% increase in passengers transported in heavy railway, interrupting the declining trend of the previous quarters.
