Summary
According to the 2010 EU-SILC (EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions) survey provisional data on 2009 incomes, the resident population in risk of poverty kept at 17.9%. The contribution of social transfers reduced the proportion of at-risk-of poverty population in 8.5 percentage points, indicating an increase when compared to the previous year (circa 6.5 percentage points).
Complementarily, the outcomes of the survey concerning the indicators Europe 2020 indicate a proportion of 25.3% individuals at risk of poverty or social exclusion: persons at risk of poverty or living in households with very low work intensity or in a condition of severe material deprivation.
Income of the 20% top income group was 5.6 times the income of the 20% bottom income group, continuing the downward tendency of the indicator. A Gini Coefficient of 33.7% also reflected the improvement in the asymmetry of the income distribution.
