Summary
This publication presents an overview of the Portuguese housing stock and the evolution of the construction sector. The most relevant aspects for the rehabilitation of residential buildings are emphasized. The main topics covered are: evolution of the population, households and dwellings;  main characteristics of buildings and dwellings; estimate of housing needs and characterization of the conservation state of the most degraded buildings; and analysis of the activity of the construction sector dedicated to building rehabilitation.
