In August 2024, the tourist accommodation sector accounted for 3.8 million guests (+5.9%) and 10.5 million overnight stays (+3.8%), amounting to EUR 948.1 million in total revenue (+7.8%) and EUR 765.5 million in revenue from accommodation (+7.7%).
The revenue per available room (RevPAR) stood at EUR 113.8 (+5.0%) and the average daily rate (ADR) amounted to EUR 153.3 (+4.1%). ADR reached the highest values in Algarve (EUR 205.7) and Alentejo (EUR 162.5).
The municipality of Lisboa accounted for 15.0% of total overnight stays (5.4% of the total number of overnight stays spent by residents and 20.0% of those spent by non-residents), i.e., increasing by 5.2% (+4.5% regarding residents and +5.3% concerning non-residents). Among the municipalities with the highest number of overnight stays in August, Porto (6.7% of total overnight stays) and Ponta Delgada (1.9% of the total) stood out with the highest growth rates (+6.9% and +6.5 %, respectively).
From January to August, overnight stays increased by 4.1% to 55.1 million, leading to an increase of 10.5% in total revenue and 10.4% in revenue from accommodation. This growth was mainly due to the increase of 5.2% in overnight stays of non-residents, while those spent by residents grew more modestly (+1.5%).
Considering all means of accommodation (tourist accommodation establishments, camping and holiday camps, and youth hostels), there were 4.3 million guests and 12.6 million overnight stays in August, reflecting increases of 5.4% and 3.2%, respectively. The number of overnight stays spent by residents increased by 3.5%, while those spent by non-residents grew by 3.0%.
