In June 2024, the tourist accommodation sector accounted for 3.0 million guests (+6.7%) and 7.8 million overnight stays (+4.8%), amounting to EUR 698.0 million in total revenue (+12.7%) and EUR 541.0 million in revenue from accommodation (+12.7%).
The revenue per available room (RevPAR) stood at EUR 85.0 (+9.4%) and the average daily rate (ADR) amounted to EUR 132.0 (+8.0%). The ADR reached its highest values in Grande Lisboa (EUR 170.9), Algarve (EUR 139,8) and RA Açores (EUR 128,4).
The municipality of Lisboa accounted for 18.0% of all overnight stays (8.7% of total overnight stays spent by residents and 21.7% of those spent by non-residents), increasing by 4.6% (+7.4% regarding residents and +4.1% concerning non-residents). Among the municipalities with the highest number of overnight stays in June, Portimão (3.9% of total overnight stays) stood out with the highest growth (+13.4%). This was due to the positive evolution of overnight stays of residents (+8.0%) and, above all, of non-residents (+15.4%).
In the 1st semester of 2024, the number of overnight stays rose by 4.5% to 35.5 million, resulting in an increase of 12.3% in total revenue and 12.1% in revenue from accommodation. This increase was mainly due to non-resident overnight stays, which grew by 5.8%, while resident overnight stays grew more slowly (+1.4%).
As part of the 1st semester of 2024 results, this press release also includes an analysis of the concentration of overnight stays by market in the main municipalities and their degree of dependence on external markets. It should be noted that the municipalities of Lisbon and Porto together accounted for more than half of the total number of overnight stays by residents in the Brazilian (60.8%), United States (59.7%) and Italian (57.3%) markets in the first half of the year.
Considering all means of accommodation (tourist accommodation establishments, camping and holiday camps, and youth hostels), there were 3.3 million guests and 8.5 million overnight stays in June, representing increases of 6.7% and 4.8%, respectively. Overnight stays spent by residents increased by 3.5% and those spent by non-residents grew by 5.4%.
