Heavy rainfalls suspend autumn-winter sowing - October 2006
20 November 2006

Summary
On 31 October early estimates refer to the end of the 2005/2006 crop year, which was marked by heavy rainfalls that affected grape harvest and spring/summer-grown crops. In the wake of the previous bad crop year, much affected by the drought situation, production increased in arable crops. Production from main fruit trees revealed good quality, in particular pears, whose harvest is expected to increase by 30%, therefore anticipating a good marketing year. As regards shell nuts, good production is expected for chestnuts, in terms of both quality and quantity (+30%). Grape harvest this year is expected to be of good quality, in spite of the rain, and to reach 6,786,000 hectolitres.
