Summary

IIn September 2022, the number of deaths was 8,705, a figure lower than that registered in August 2022 (576 fewer deaths; -2.2%) and higher than the figure observed in September 2021 (132 more deaths; +1.5%). From January to September 2022, there were 92,724 deaths, 1,186 fewer than in the same period of 2021 (-1.3%).

In September 2022, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 decreased to 178 (50 fewer deaths than in August 2022), accounting for 2.0% of all deaths. Compared with September 2021, there was a decrease of 45 deaths due to COVID-19.

In August 2022, 7,537 children were born alive, corresponding to an increase of 5.3% compared to August 2021 (7,159). The total number of live births registered in the first eight months of 2022 (53,954) was higher than the value observed in the same period of 2021 (52,218), representing a further 1,736 (+3.3 %) live births. 

In August 2022, the natural balance was -1,702, a lower figure compared to the same month of 2021, when it reached the value of -1,305. In the first eight months of 2022, the accumulated value of the natural balance was -29,871, improving the figure registered in the same period of 2021 (-33,052).

In August 2022, 4,860 marriages were celebrated, corresponding to an increase of 5.4% compared to the number of marriages held in August 2021 (248 more marriages). In the first eight months of 2022, 23,755 marriages were celebrated, 6,228 more than in the same period of 2021.
