Passenger transport continues to approach 2019 levels - 2nd Quarter 2022

Summary

In the 2nd quarter of 2022, national airports handled 16,0 million passengers, corresponding to an increase of 299.2% compared to the same period of 2021 (+465.7% in Q1 2022). Compared to the same period of 2019, there was a decrease of 4.3%.

In the same quarter of 2022, 43,4 million passengers were transported by train and 54,9 million by metro (+51.0% and +67.2%, respectively, in comparison to the same period of 2021). Compared to the same period of 2019, there variations were +0.9% and -19.8%, respectively.

In the 2nd quarter of 2022, the transport of passengers by inland waterways increased by 62.5% compared to the Q2 2021 (+105.2% in Q1 2022), reaching 4.8 million passengers, and decreased by 11.5% compared to Q2 2019.

Regarding the transport of goods, air transport increased by 22.5% compared to the Q2 2021 (+8.8% vis-à-vis Q2 2019). Rail transport registered a decrease of 2.1% compared to the same period of 2021 (+6.3% in previous quarter) and an increase of 4.2% compared to Q2 2019. By sea there was an increase of 1.0% compared to Q2 2021 (+0.8%% in Q1 2022) and +1.4% in comparison to Q2 2019. Road transport slightly decreased by 3.5% in comparison to 2021 and -0.8% to 2019, reaching 38.9 million tonnes.
