Risk of Poverty stands at 18%

Summary
According to the EU-SILC survey (EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions) developed in 2007 on 2006 incomes, 18% of the resident population was in risk of poverty, maintaining the value estimated for the previous year. The impact of social transfers (excluding pensions) in the decrease of the risk of poverty was 6 percentage points.
In accordance with the 2007 survey, income of the 20% top income group was 6,5 times the income of the 20% bottom income group, reflecting a slight decrease to the value of 6,8 estimated in previous year. A decrease in Gini Coefficient from 38% to 37% is also observed.
