Slowdown in the growth pace of tourism accommodation activity - July 2019

Summary

The tourism accommodation sector accounted for 2.8 million guests and 8.2 million overnight stays in July 2019, corresponding to year-on-year rates of change of +5.4% and +2.2%, respectively (+10.0% and +6,1% in June, by the same order).
Overnight stays from residents increased by 2.7% (+12.0% in June) and those from non-residents rose by 2.0% (+3.7% in the previous month). Brazil and Spain contributed with around 90% to the increased number of overnight stays from non residents.
In July 2019, the average stay (2.89 nights) decreased by 3.0% (-1.9% for residents and -3.6% for non residents).
The net bed occupancy rate (60.0%) fell by 1.7 p.p. (+0.3 p.p. in June).
Total revenue increased by 6.2% (+11.8% in June) to € 537.8 million. Revenue from accommodation (€ 417.6 million) went up by 5.1% (+12.7% in the previous month).
Revenue per available room (RevPAR) stood at € 70.9 (+0.7%, +6.9% in the previous month) and the average daily rate (ADR) also decelerated, corresponding to € 107.6 (+1.2%, +6.2% in the previous month).
