Survey on Volunteer Work
Slightly more than 1 in every 10 residents in active age made volunteer work

On the occasion of the release of the Social Economy Satellite Account for 2010, Statistics Portugal publishes the results of the survey on Volunteer Work for 2012. The volunteer rate estimated for 2012 was 11.5%, i.e. about 1 million and 40,000 residents aged 15 or older participated in, at least, one activity of formal and/or informal volunteering. It is estimated that the volunteer activities were equivalent to about 4% of the total hours worked and their equivalent monetary value corresponded to about 1% of GDP.
