The unemployment rate estimated for the 1st quarter of 2012 was 14.9 per cent. This value is up 2.5 percentage points from the same quarter of 2011 and 0.9 percentage points from the previous quarter.
There were 819.3 thousand unemployed people, which corresponds to an year-on-year increase of 18.9 per cent and to a quarterly increase of 6.3 per cent (more 130.4 thousand and 48.3 thousand people, respectively).
There were 4 662.5 thousand employed people, which corresponds to an year-on-year decrease of 4.2 per cent and to a quarterly decrease of 1.5 per cent (less 203.5 thousand and 72.9 thousand people, respectively).
