2022 Edition 18 MONTHLY STATISTICAL BULLETIN The median house rental of new lease agreements increased by 8.3% and the number of new lease agreements increased by 6.2% In the 4th quarter of 2021 (provisional data): • The median house rental of the approximately 23,400 new lease agreements in Portugal reached €6.25/m2, which represents a year-on-year growth of 8.3% (+7.6% in the previous quarter); • Also, year-on-year, the median house rental increased in 21 of the 25 NUTS III sub-regions, most notably: » Região Autónoma dos Açores: +12.6%; » Beira Baixa: +12.5%; » Alentejo Litoral: +10.1%; Annual rates of change in median rent per m² and in the number of new leases for Portugal (year-on-year rate of change) • The municipalities with the highest values of new lease agreements - Lisboa (€11.54/m2), Cascais (€11.29/m2), Oeiras (€10.21/m2), and Porto (€9.15/m2) - registered year-on-year growth in rents lower than in the country (+3.9%, +7.8%, +5.5%, and +7.5%, respectively); • The number of new rental agreements in the country registered an increase of 6.2% in year-on-year terms and a reduction of -0.1% compared with the previous quarter; • Only 7 NUTS III sub-regions registered a decrease in the number of new lease agreements in comparison with the same period of the previous year: » Região Autónoma da Madeira: -19.4%; » Médio Tejo: -17.3%; » Terras de Trás-os-Montes: -10.2%; » Região Autónoma dos Açores: -9.8%; » Alentejo Central: -9.3%; » Beira Baixa: -7.1%; » Oeste: -2.5%. • The highest rents were recorded in the following sub-regions: » Área Metropolitana de Lisboa: €9.20/m2; » Algarve: €7.07/m2; » Área Metropolitana do Porto: €6.84/m2; » Região Autónoma da Madeira: €6.70/m2; • The median house rental registered year-on- -year increases in the 24 municipalities with more than 100 thousand inhabitants (22 municipalities in the previous quarter); Note: the figures concerning the most recent period are provisional More information is available at: House rental statistics at the local level – 4th quarter of 2021 29 March 2022 8.3% 7.6% 6.2% 0.6% 0.0% 1.0% 2.0% 3.0% 4.0% 5.0% 6.0% 7.0% 8.0% 9.0% 4Q 2021 3Q 2021 Median house rental value per m2 No. of new lease agreements
