Madeira Portugal » 241 hospitals (128 private and 113 belonging to the official health services); The ratio of universal access hospitals (public hospitals with universal access or in public- -private partnership) per 100,000 inhabitants was 1.1 in 2020, as in the previous year; » 36.3 thousand hospital beds available and equipped for immediate hospitalisation (230 more beds than in 2019), corresponding to 3.5 beds per 1,000 inhabitants; Of the total number of beds, 67.2% were in public hospitals or public- -private partnership units; • Around 74% of the existing hospitals were general hospitals, i.e., they integrated more than one area of expertise; Among the 62 specialised hospitals, Psychiatric hospitals predominated (23 hospitals);
