Summary
This study supplies a set of tools that make it possible to obtain, for the first time, an objective comparison of the development process at the local level, from a transnational point of view, namely through the construction of indicators derived from base variables representing different fields: demography, business activity, taxation, housing, education, health, unemployment, tourism and data on some equipments. Indices are presented on Urban Development, Demographic Dynamism, Industrial Specificity, Productivity, Tourism Specificity and Specificity in Agriculture and Fisheries, as well as a Synthetic Development Indicator that combines the previous indices. This publication results from cooperation between Statistics Portugal and the Instituto Galego de Estatística (Statistical Institute of Galicia) and it is issued in bilingual version.
