In June 2023, the number of deaths was 8,743, lower than the number registered in May 2023 (466 less deaths; -5.1%) and in June 2022 (1,472 less deaths; -14.4%). In that month, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 decreased to 151 (20 less deaths than in May 2023), accounting for 1.7% of all deaths. Compared to June 2022, there was a decrease of 836 deaths due to COVID-19.

In May 2023, 7,244 children were born alive, corresponding to an increase of 4.2% compared to May 2022 (6,951). The total number of live births registered in the first five months of 2023 (34,294) was higher than the value observed in the same period of 2022 (32,517), representing a further 1,777 live births (+5.5%).

In May 2023, the natural balance was -1,941, improving in relation to the same month of 2022, when it reached -3,404. In the first five months of 2023, the cumulative value of the natural balance was -17,382, corresponding to an improvement from the value registered in the same period of 2022 (-21,195).

In May 2023, 3,566 marriages were celebrated, corresponding to an increase of 1.3% compared to the number of marriages held in May 2022 (46 more marriages). In the first five months of 2023, 11,065 marriages were celebrated, 1,127 more (+11.3%) than in the same period of 2022.
