Summary
Based on data from the publication “Construction and Housing Statistics – 2008”, available soon on Statistics Portugal web site, it can be concluded that in 2008 the total number of building permits decreased by 15.4% from the previous year. As regards completed buildings, there was an increase of 5,5% from 2007.
When analysing new residential buildings the trend is similar: -21.3% for building permits and +5.3% regarding completed buildings.
The number of dwellings completed in requalification works increased by 16.1% from the previous year, which leads to a high relevance of buildings and dwellings requalification in the construction sector.
